Third time to the races this preparation and it was back to the winner's enclosure for talented 3 year old colt SEAWAY (NZ) with a decisive win at Canterbury Park yesterday afternoon in the Benchmark 76 handicap over 1,550 metres. Tye Angland was in the saddle and rode the colt to perfection allowing SEAWAY (NZ) to settle on the rail slightly worse than midfield. Once the field headed for the winning post in the home straight, Tye forced the colt away from the rail and the pair gathered momentum quickly with SEAWAY (NZ) surging to the lead to win by 3 lengths. In the words of Sky Racing commentator Mitch Manners over the concluding stages of the race "it's all Seaway...gun ride this by Angland"...and it certainly was!
The grandson of the Champion but sadly deceased New Zealand sire Thorn Park (NZ), SEAWAY (NZ) is developing into a very good quality colt by the emerging young NZ based sire Ocean Park (NZ) whose oldest progeny are now only 3 year olds. SEAWAY (NZ) was one of his first crop yearlings and given that he was a November born foal he has some furnishing still to go yet as he matures further. Purchased by Star Thoroughbreds at the 2016 Karaka NZ yearling sale on the advice of renowned yearling selector Steve Brem who has so ably assisted us for some time, SEAWAY (NZ) is certainly heading in the right direction for a very successful race career.
Well done to the winning SEAWAY (NZ) owners Paramount Racing (Manager: Kathryn Wood), Gaye Smith, Ray Aurisch, Helen Aurisch, Tim Boland, Francis Cook, Christine Cook, P & S Glenney & S McKee Racing (Manager: Patti Glenney)
