|The blinkers might well have done the job! When Chris elected to send our 3 year old filly LILAKAI to his Gold Coast stable some weeks ago, he felt the local competition would be very beneficial to the filly to enable her to gain not only valuable race experience, but hopefully it would also give her the chance to notch up a win (or maybe even a few) in the area. As is the case all the time his thinking was accurate, with the daughter of Al Maher winning the 1,625 metres maiden at Toowoomba yesterday in what was programmed as a metropolitan class meeting at only her 2nd race start. Blinkers had been applied for yesterday's race and they made a significant difference to her concentration level. |
After beginning well LILAKAI found herself in the perfect spot in the run; one pair behind the leaders on the rail in a race which was run at a genuine tempo. The filly peeled into a 3 wide position just before straightening and challenged for the lead shortly thereafter. In a solid performance LILAKAI surged to the line in the concluding stages of the race to win by half a length. Thanks to Chris and his Gold Coast stable team for a grand job to get LILAKAI into the winner's circle so soon into her race career and to "the master" Robbie Fradd for one of his now trademark very strong rides once again.
Congratulations to the winning LILAKAI owners Ray Aurisch, Helen Aurisch, Barry Johnston, Terri Johnston, Steven McKenzie, Wendy Smith, Ian Dix, Margaret Wood, Robert Castle, Shirley Drew, Matthew Reynolds, Mark Ryder, Mark Bergersen, Boeara Holdings (Manager: Denise Dunphy), Derek Robinson, Marcus Taylor.
