|INHERIT caught many by surprise when winning on debut last Saturday at Newcastle over 1,200 metres with Lee Magorrian in the saddle. The son of Pierro had shown in his trials that he was most likely looking to be a "distance" horse with his racing style more akin to staying races. |
The gelding jumped well and settled midfield initially but when one of the field charged to the lead and put a margin on the remainder of the group not long after the start, Lee allowed the gelding to settle into a more comfortable position where he travelled more evenly. Before the turn, INHERIT began to improve his position and once they straightened in the run to the post, Lee brought the gelding widest of all, almost to the outside rail and the pair reeled in the field to win by just over half a length.
INHERIT was a Star yearling purchase at the 2017 Magic Millions Gold Coast yearling sale from the draft of Queensland based farm, Element Hill. Being out of In The Future, an unraced half-sister to Domesday, the owners wittingly named him INHERIT hoping that's just what he'd do as he became older, exhibiting the talents of his sire Pierro on the track. His eye catching debut on Saturday suggests that there is certainly more to come from the gelding as he learns his trade and his race distances increase.
Congratulations to the winning INHERIT owners Mervyn Wood, Margaret Wood, Francis Kennedy, Barbara Kennedy, Paramount Racing (Manager: Kathryn Wood), Tom Hastings, Chris Olliver, Ray Aurisch, Helen Aurisch.
