Winner of the Group 3 Widden Stakes as a 2 year old in the autumn, FIESTA returned to racing at Royal Randwick on Saturday with a brilliant win in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes over 1,200 metres. From the perfect barrier 1 draw Kerrin McEvoy elected to have the filly travel comfortably on the fence in 5th position and she remained in that spot until about the 500 metres mark when Kerrin begin to improve on FIESTA. In the home straight she was eased out from behind the leader to challenge once the opening appeared between the leading pair at about the 350 metres mark. FIESTA hit the front at about the 100 metres mark and then held off challengers to win in very good style. She will now continue on to the Furious Stakes, the second leg of the prestigious ATC Princess Series won twice previously by Star's 3 year old fillies Danglissa and Foxplay. As a Group 3 and now Group 2 winning daughter of I Am Invincible, FIESTA has already stamped herself as a highly valuable broodmare, just much later on we very much hope into her career. Congratulations to the winning FIESTA owners Paramount Racing (Manager: Kathryn Wood), Andrew Grant-Taylor, Nielma Grant-Taylor, Wayne Haylen, Ron Bell, Chris Olliver, Henderson Racing and Breeding (Manager: David Henderson), Rhonda Henderson, John McCrimmon, Bruno Calabro, Boeara Holdings (Manager: Denise Dunphy), Ray Aurisch, Helen Aurisch. |
