At his second race start, CHRYSAOR the son of successful Queensland stallion Better Than Ready, had gained the experience he needed from his first start prior a fortnight earlier, to win impressively on the Sunshine Coast on Saturday. Over the 1,200 metres trip, the colt jumped well and took just on 100 metres to get into stride. He settled in fifth spot, one off the rail and travelled comfortably to be 6 lengths off the leaders at the turn for home. When rider James Orman angled for clear running, CHRYSAOR balanced well and commenced his charge to the line. He won well by a length with more than 4 lengths to the third horse so hopefully he is Magic Millions bound in January. The QTIS bonuses for Queensland bred horses make the Saturday prize money in that state attractive for owners.

Post race James commented that “it was ‘greeness’ which cost him last time so it was good to get the win today…he’s a lovely horse who feels like a 3 year old and looks like a 3 year old….he’s got the ability there and it was good to see him win”.

The colt is out of winning Choisir mare New Wings, a sister to one of our all time favourite horses, 13 time winner Religify. He was named CHRYSAOR who in Greek mythology was the brother of the winged horse Pegasus. The colt was a $115,000 purchase at this year’s Magic Millions yearling sale from the draft of Bell River Thoroughbreds.

Thank you to Chris and his great Gold Coast team headed by Brett Killion for all the work with our horses including CHRYSAOR on Saturday and to Brett Howard from Randwick Bloodstock with whom we work at yearling sale time.
