If ever there was a case of “first out first home” it was Star’s 3 year old filly ARRANMORE winning comfortably at Randwick yesterday, Melbourne Cup day. The daughter of Astern had raced twice before, each time the runner up to seemingly talented horses, so yesterday with Tommy Berry piloting the filly, it was a case of take no chances. She jumped well to take up a forward position early in the 1,100 metres maiden, then shortly after ARRANMORE improved on the rail to lead comfortably into the home straight. She sprinted clear on straightening and always looked the winner from there on. It was a good display by a promising filly.
ARRANMORE was a 2020 Inglis Premier yearling purchase for $110,000 from the draft of Victorian based stud Blue Gum Farm. The filly is out of Giant’s Causeway (USA) broodmare Rathlin Island who has already produced the New Zealand Champion 2 Year Old Warhorse. As Rathlin Island is an island off the coast of Northern Ireland, Arranmore is another island off the coast of Ireland so our filly is aptly named.
