KALINO recorded his second Saturday win from his last 3 starts this time at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday. He was unlucky not to feature at his previous start but he clipped heels and blundered at the 700 metres mark in that race with James McDonald doing well to keep the gelding on his feet. The pair bounced back to the winner’s circle this week in the 1,400 metres benchmark 78 for colts and geldings.
The 4 year old son of Pierro jumped well from the barriers and James elected to be positive on the gelding, settling him into a perfect position, one out one back, where KALINO settled and travelled well throughout. He tracked into the race beautifully around the turn and loomed outside the leader confidently upon straightening. KALINO responded well when James asked for a final effort and the gelding won in good style by just under a length.
KALINO is racing in great form and is proving to be a progressive type as we head in Sydney’s Spring Carnival. James commented post race that the gelding “adapted well being ridden closer to the speed, showed a nice turn of foot and he is a horse on the rise”. Special congratulations to co-owners Bill Lovatt and Emil Paya who bred KALINO.
