While much focus is on the Gold Coast this week, it was wonderful to see our horses putting on a show at Warwick Farm with both of our runners first past the post. HOLLYWOOD NORTH jumped away fairly in the 1,400 metres event with Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle. The 4 year old son of Vancouver was ridden quietly in the early stages as he found his rhythm towards the rear of the field. Approaching the turn it was clear that HOLLYWOOD NORTH was travelling well and Kerrin angled the gelding out wide in the home straight to start his run. When the pressure was put on, HOLLYWOOD NORTH showed a sharp turn of foot and easily accounted for his rivals over the final 150 metres.
The manner in which the 1,400 metres fillies event panned out was quite similar to that of their male counterparts. ARRANMORE jumped well but was given time to balance up from the widest barrier as she settled a clear last during the early stages. The field bunched as they approached the turn and once in the straight, ARRANMORE circled the field quickly with a great turn of foot. She maintained a high galloping speed to the post, so it was a deserving win for the 4 year old daughter of Astern.
