The Australia Day holiday saw Sydney metropolitan racing at Warwick Farm. Three year old gelding CADETSHIP a son of Merchant Navy, Coolmore’s Royal Ascot Diamond Jubilee winner, scored a very determined win right on the post in the 1,400 metres Benchmark 72 on the program yesterday. Aided by a gem of a ride from James McDonald, CADETSHIP appears an emerging talent with two wins and a very narrow margin second at Warwick Farm last time from his last 3 starts. James commented post race that the gelding “has a good turn of foot and is learning to race so he seems ready for a Saturday race now”. The battle over the concluding stages of the race down the Warwick Farm straight between CADETSHIP and ultimately the second horse was “stirring stuff” with a very narrow margin result going our way and CADETSHIP winning for the second time in just a six start career to date. He may well be a horse to watch going forward.
Congratulations to the winning CADETSHIP owners Martin Ive, Rachel Ive, Paramount Racing (Manager: Kathryn Wood), Jason Wise, John Manca, McLeish Family Racing (Manager: David McLeish), Adoreme Racing (Manager: Scott Garbett), Simon Bubear, Nick Moss, Brett Pund, Steven Isaacs, Foxton Beach Boys RS (Manager: Barry Murphy), David Cohen, Jim Hepburn.
