LA SEULE raced first up this preparation at Kembla Grange on Saturday and recorded her maiden win from just 3 career starts to date. The 3 year old filly was a yearling purchase from the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast yearling sale and quite interestingly is the only filly by Godolphin’s Group 1 Randwick Guineas winner Kementari to be offered at public auction. Kementari was retired to stud in 2019 but produced just six live foals and therefore was gelded and returned to the racetrack where he won a further 4 times.
LA SEULE began well from her barrier and was allowed to find a rhythm through the early part of the 1,300 metres event, settling midfield along the fence with Grant Buckley aboard. Grant allowed the filly to improve through her gears approaching the turn for home, circling the field to let down in the centre of track for the run to the post. LA SEULE looked the winner into the home straight, however the filly was a little wayward over the final 100 metres looking quite lost in the middle of the track on her own. Grant kept her balanced to come away for an important win.
The ownership group who came together to race the filly recognized her unique status and named her LA SEULE which in French means “the only”. She appears to be a filly capable of progressing to a higher grade in time and so it will be interesting to watch her development over the next 12 months.
