Lightly raced 3 year old gelding MANNERHEIM resumed this preparation with a 2nd and 3rd placing but he was back in the winner’s circle yesterday with a dominant win third up over 1,700 metres at Ipswich. The son of Dundeel (NZ) jumped well from the outside barrier in a field of 11 and jockey Ryan Maloney eased the gelding across to settle one off the fence in the latter half of the field where he travelled in a lovely rhythm. Ryan began to improve on MANNERHEIM approaching the 600 metres mark and the pair continued to build momentum around the turn for home. Once he balanced up in the straight, it was a comfortable watch for onlookers as he really hit the line solidly to win in eye catching style. MANNERHEIM is clearly a progressive 3 year old and is putting together a nice record…in his 6 starts to date, he has never been out of the top 3 placings. He is ‘hitting his straps” at the right time to target some quality races during the Queensland Winter Carnival.
Congratulations to the winning MANNERHEIM owners CGO Racing, Peter Aukstinaitis, Martin Ive, Rachel Ive, Paramount Racing (Manager: Kathryn Wood), Ray Aurisch, Kevin Paul Rochford, Felgate Holdings (Manager: Paul Felgate), Astrid Woods, Trent Hibbs, Michael Hibbs, Martin Chong.
