Visiting UK based jockey James Doyle has very recently been in Australia specifically to ride a number of the Godolphin horses through the spring racing features in Melbourne. A free day last Saturday in Melbourne enabled him to ride at Rosehill Gardens in Sydney; our Star owners of UK import HUMBOLT CURRENT (GB) were pleased that he did. James stated immediately on meeting the owners in attendance that he had ridden the gelding when he won in England before being sold to Australian interests. Whilst racing consistently this preparation, HUMBOLT CURRENT (GB) had not yet been able to break through for his first win in this country, however a gem of a ride by James Doyle in the 2,400 metres race saw that change quickly on Saturday.
Settling just behind the leading duo for the majority of the race, HUMBOLT CURRENT (GB) moved off the fence as the field straightened and as a gap opened, James drove the gelding to the lead and at the 100 metres mark it was clear that the race was in their keeping. It was a good solid win and pleasing to see that the gelding is strong over a staying distance.
Congratulations to the winning HUMBOLT CURRENT (GB) connections including our Star Thoroughbreds’ owners Paramount Racing (Manager: Kathryn Wood), Boeara Holdings (Manager: Denise Dunphy), Chris Olliver, Brent Hudson, Judy Hudson, George Ardill, Robert McKay, John Saunders, Victoria Johnson.
