CANARA was Stakes placed as a 2 year old when running 3rd in the Listed Bill Carter Stakes during the Brisbane Winter Carnival but her maiden win had proven to be somewhat elusive…that was until Friday night at The Valley when she made her way into the Winner’s Circle for the first time.

From barrier 1, jockey Damian Lane elected to make good use of the draw and take the filly to the front for the 1,600 metres event. The 3 year old daughter of I Am Invincible travelled very comfortably in pole position and it was clear approaching the turn that the race was hers for the taking. CANARA let down strongly in the straight and won by a comfortable 3.5 lengths. The filly will go out for a well deserved break now and we look forward to her once again targeting black type races in the Autumn.

CANARA was a 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast yearling purchase from the draft of Amarina Farm. The filly is out of New Zealand bred mare Karavali, a Group 3 winner of the ATC Aspiration and CANARA is aptly named as Canara, also known as Karavali, is the historically significant stretch of land situated by the southwestern coast of India.
