CAFE AU LAIT had one start as a 2 year old before resuming as a 3 year old with a narrow second placing at Geelong 3 weeks ago. It was great to see the filly go one better and break through for her maiden win at her third career start when racing at Seymour yesterday.
The daughter of Alabama Express jumped cleanly for the 1,200 metres event and jockey Jye McNeil settled her in a midfield position where she travelled comfortably. Once CAFE AU LAIT rounded the home turn and balanced up in the straight, Jye allowed her to work through her gears down the outside to win convincingly. Jye commented post race that “it worked out perfectly and she let down really well”, adding that CAFE AU LAIT “is in great form”.
CAFE AU LAIT was a 2024 Inglis Premier yearling sale purchase from the draft of Yulong, where the filly’s sire Alabama Express also stands. She is out of Medaglia d’Oro mare Caffeine who is from the family of Star’s 11 start winner EASTENDER. Her dam’s name was the inspiration for her coffee related name.
