ESTREMO commenced his racing career as a late 2 year old when debuting at Canterbury Park at the end of July. The son of Extreme Choice ran 3rd on this occasion but returned to the Canterbury track second up as a 3 year old and broke his maiden in smart style over 1,100 metres. The stable team elected to then send the colt south to the Flemington base to continue his preparation. ESTREMO wasn’t suited to Moonee Valley over 1,200 metres for his next two starts but when stepping up in trip at the bigger Caulfield track on Saturday, he produced a career best performance to win the Group 3 Cauldfield Guineas Prelude over 1,400 metres.

ESTREMO jumped well for jockey Ben Melham and the pair travelled comfortably in a midfield rail position with cover following a moderate upfront speed. The colt hugged the fence rounding the turn for home and Ben asked for acceleration from the 300 metres mark. In the straight, ESTREMO came off the fence to secure clear running and he battled courageously in a head to head duel with the eventual placegetter.

The photo finish was in our favour with a head bobbing win on the post and ESTREMO is now a Stakes winning son of Extreme Choice from just 5 starts. The Group 1 Caulfield Guineas over 1,600 metres is 3 weeks away and we will make plans for ESTREMO going forward in coming days.
