The much sought after progeny of super sire Extreme Choice continue to “show up” on big carnival days and such was the case on Saturday at Doomben. His 3 year old colt ESTREMO was reunited with his Caulfield Guineas Prelude winning rider Ben Melham in the 1,350 metres 3 Year Old Plate and the two displayed the formula which was successful last spring.
On jumping with the leading runners, the colt took a couple of hundred metres to fully settle in the run before positioning outside another runner, travelling in 4th spot. At about the 600 metres mark, Ben elected to commence a move which saw ESTREMO the widest of the runners turning for home. Once the colt balanced in the straight, he began to extend at the 250 metres mark and accelerated sharply over the final 150 metres to come away with an eye catching comfortable win. In the words of the race caller as the field approached the winning post “he’s in full flight and he’s too good”.
ESTREMO will next run in the 1,400 metres Group 3 Fred Best Classic to be run on 30th May with the winner then ballot free into the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap; all in all an exciting few weeks ahead for the ESTREMO owners.
