Our well related Choisir mare VOILA showed her class to win at the Sunshine Coast yesterday. The 5 year old jumped on terms with the other runners and rider Luke Dittman allowed her to find her feet initially before taking up a reasonably forward position on the rails to settle 4th. The mare remained in that spot for the balance of the 1,200 metres event until well into the home straight by which time the leader had put a margin on the field with a determined ride by the young apprentice. It wasn’t until well into the final 100 metres that Luke asked VOILA to “pick up” and sprint. With the 6.5kgs weight difference between the leader and our mare, it took her a few seconds to gather momentum and when she did, VOILA came quickly to overhaul the leader in the final 30 metres of the race.
She is now a 5 time winner and the mare looks well capable of winning more races before retirement looms maybe next year. Out of Zabeel’s daughter Milzeel (NZ), VOILA may in time became a sought after breeding proposition. Our thanks to Chris’ Gold Coast foreman Paul Shailer who together with his team achieve excellent results for Star in Queensland.
Congratulations to the winning VOILA owners Chris Olliver, Norman Marks, Lucy Horseman, Margaret Roberts, J And T Racing (Manager: Jason Rose), Boeara Holdings (Manager: Denise Dunphy), Jan Van Buynder, Robert Dare, David Wilson, Paramount Racing (Manager: Kathryn Wood), Mervyn Wood, Dianne Handley.
