Three year old MANTELLI commenced his racing career in Queensland at the end of last year winning at Doomben just prior to Christmas. A spell followed and he came to NSW for his second full preparation. He was luckless however on the softer track conditions in the state and so Chris subsequently elected to send him back to his Gold Coast stable where the gelding clearly enjoys the sun. He once again proved his liking for this environment on Wednesday at Eagle Farm when a brilliant ride by Ryan Maloney enabled MANTELLI to win very well over 1,300 metres.

MANTELLI jumped well and landed in fourth position, one off the fence behind a moderate tempo. He was inclined to over-race because of the lack of speed and so Ryan elected to let him slide forward and sit outside the leader, a tactical move which ultimately resulted in a determined win. MANTELLI took the lead upon straightening and a mighty battle ensued with the runner up in the run to the post. MANTELLI displayed real tenacity to win and the photo finish in his favour on the line seemed a fitting result (well we thought so at least).

Congratulations to the winning MANTELLI owners Ray Aurisch, Helen Aurisch, Lorenzo D’Addona, Peter Aukstinaitis, Paramount Racing (Manager: Kathryn Wood), Oliver Enriquez, David Carlson, Bruno Calabro, Robert Dutton, Julie Anson, John McCrimmon, Lauren Fitzsimons, J And T Racing (Manager: Jason Rose).
