SWEET GOLD (GER) was imported from Germany late last year as a lightly raced Stakes placed filly. She has been placed seven times since her arrival in Australia so it was good to see her notch up her first Australian win at Ipswich yesterday.

The daughter of Group 1 winner Havana Gold (IRE) jumped well but settled at the rear of the field behind a good tempo for the 1,700 metres event. Jockey Michael Cahill began to improve from the 800 metres mark as the mare circled the field. Upon straightening, SWEET GOLD (GER) quickened widest of all down the home straight and drew away in the concluding stages for a convincing 2 lengths victory. Michael commented post race that it was a nice strong win and stepping her up in distance will be ideal for the mare as she progresses through this preparation.

Congratulations to the winning SWEET GOLD (GER) connections including our Star Thoroughbreds’ owners Paramount Racing (Manager: Kathryn Wood), Philip Ward, Katherine Ward, Boeara Holdings (Manager: Denise Dunphy), Denis Frew, Margaret Frew, Felgate Holdings (Manager: Paul Felgate), Robert Castle, Andrew Terluk.
