ADMONISH was set to first race in the The Debut on Magic Millions day but was an emergency in the field for that day so she instead went for a spell and lined up yesterday at Ipswich for her first time to the races. The 1,200 metres distance on a heavy 10 surface is never the ideal situation for a 2 year old making their debut but fortunately for ADMONISH it was not a deterrent to her putting her best hoof forward.
The daughter of Astern jumped well with James Orman aboard and showed good natural speed from barrier 8 to cross and settle outside the leader in second position. ADMONISH travelled in a lovely rhythm throughout and once in the straight, she swept to the front and set up a winning margin. She tired a bit late in the heavy conditions, but had enough in hand to be first past the post. It was a great ride by James from a very tricky barrier on a wet track and he commented post race that “it was a gallant effort and she is a filly with bright future ahead”.
ADMONISH was an $190,000 purchase at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast yearling sale from the draft of Telemon Thoroughbreds. Her name is obvious given that she is out of I Am Invincible mare Reprimand. ADMONISH is the mare’s first foal and the filly was high on our selection list presented by Randwick Bloodstock Agency at the sale, given she is from the same family as our multiple Stakes winner FIESTA (a full sister to Reprimand).
