ZAKIYYA and Ryan Maloney were impressive when winning at Ipswich over 1,350 metres last time out and they backed it up with another win yesterday over the same distance but this time at Doomben. The 4 year old daughter of Siyouni (FR) jumped quickly and Ryan let the speed go ahead, choosing to settle the mare three pairs back, one out, where she travelled strongly throughout compliments of the quick upfront tempo. She was really travelling approaching the turn and was clearly the one to watch as Ryan guided her into clear running. ZAKIYYA cruised up to the leaders upon straightening and “put the field away” easily for a convincing win. The mare has taken some time to learn to race effectively but she appears to be putting it all together now and is racing with great confidence.

Congratulations to the winning ZAKIYYA owners Raelene Glasgow, David Meldrum, Barry Johnston, Paramount Racing (Manager: Kathryn Wood), Boeara Holdings (Manager: Denise Dunphy), Martin Ive, Rachel Ive, Cockram Racing IV (Manager: William Cockram), Shane Hatton, Michael Hatton, Leon Mugavin, Martin Chong, CGO Racing.
