After being thereabouts in her previous 4 starts this preparation, BELLARINE came from well off the pace to win the 1,400 metres maiden comfortably at the Gold Coast on Saturday. The daughter of Deep Field has only recently relocated to Chris’ Gold Coast stable and no doubt she has appreciated both the change of scenery and easier races of late. From the outside barrier, her rider Luke Dittman allowed BELLARINE to settle near the rear of the field and she remained there until just after the 900 metres mark. At that point Luke elected to start to improve on the mare. She came wide around the corner, gathered momentum upon straightening and at the 100 metres mark BELLARINE started to forge clear in the end coming away for a relatively easy win by a length on the line.

Congratulations to the winning BELLARINE owners Paramount Racing (Manager: Kathyrn Wood), Marivic Lewandoski, Russell West, David McLeish, Maureen McLeish, Mervyn Wood, John Henderson, Jan Henderson, Peter Aquino, Ray Aurisch, Helen Aurisch, Newgate Bloodstock (Manager: Henry Field).
