EGMONT produced an impressive debut performance on the Gold Coast polytrack yesterday, cruising to a strong victory over 1,150 metres. Ridden confidently by Andrew Mallyon, EGMONT jumped evenly before mustering good speed to settle midfield along the rail. The 3 year old son of Harry Angel (IRE) began to improve into the race approaching the 600 metres mark, with Andrew easing him away from the fence to build momentum.
Turning for home, EGMONT was five wide and travelling strongly. Once balanced, the gelding quickly found another gear and powered through the final 200 metres to score a convincing victory.
Andrew was confident heading into the race, with EGMONT having impressed him in his recent work on the polytrack. “He’d been working really well on the poly and seemed to appreciate it,” he commented post race. “Once we peeled out wider in the straight, he built through his gears nicely and was very professional.
EGMONT was a 2025 Inglis Classic yearling purchase from the draft of Golden Grove. His name is derived from a German/Dutch surname which translates to “wealthy protector”.
Congratulations to the winning EGMONT owners Paramount Racing (Manager: Kathryn Wood), Oliver Enriquez, Justin Coleman, Jesse Swain, Spasaro Racing (Manager: Josh Spasaro), Greg Cabezas, Marc Smith, Philip Bouffler.
