Lightly raced 3 year old gelding SAVASPUR (NZ) won his 1,350 metres maiden in good style at Doomben yesterday and in doing so his performance suggested that he can continue on his winning way. The son of Savabeel had raced well a couple of times in Sydney in his 5 previous starts, but his transfer for now at least to Chris’ Gold Coast stable saw the gelding relish his new surroundings and look to have a good future in the state. Jockey Michael Cahill allowed SAVASPUR (NZ) to ease slightly after jumping well from the barrier and once he settled midfield he ensured the gelding travelled well so when the opportunity came for the pair to angle from behind the leaders in the straight, SAVASPUR (NZ) quickened well to find the line strongly and put the result in no doubt straight away. As a still developing gelding he appears well placed in Queensland and it would seem he has a good preparation ahead of him as hopefully he can go through his grades comfortably.

Congratulations to the winning SAVASPUR (NZ) owners Paramount Racing (Manger: Kathryn Wood), Ray Aurisch, Helen Aurisch, Felgate Holdings (Manager: Paul Felgate), Boeara Holdings (Manager: Denise Dunphy) Heather Wilson, Raelene Glasgow, Taromeo Racing (Manager: Trudi Schwanke).
