FLAXLANDS has been racing in great form of late, only being out of the placings once in her previous 4 starts and she topped it off on Saturday with a great win at Doomben when stepping up to a mile for the first time.

The daughter of the ill-fated Wootton Bassett (GB) jumped well for jockey Ryan Maloney and rolled forward to settle behind the leader in a one off the fence position. FLAXLANDS travelled comfortably up on the pace in what was a moderately run race and another runner commenced a challenge from the 600 metres mark, giving FLAXLANDS some cover approaching the turn for home. Once in the straight, Ryan came around the leading pair and launched his run on the 4 year old mare. FLAXLANDS let down strongly, showing a good turn of foot and maintained it right to the line to hold on for a narrow win over the fast finishing eventual second place getter.

Ryan was full of praise for the mare following her win commenting that “she’s very genuine and it really played into our hands when we got that bit of cover for 200 metres approaching the turn”. It was the third career win for FLAXLANDS and she looks like she has more to offer now as a stronger, mature 4 year old.
