MAQUISA secured her maiden win in eye catching fashion on a soft 5 track at Kembla Grange on Saturday. Lee Magorrian was in the saddle and the mare jumped away on terms from barrier eight to settle at the rear of the nine horse field. The daughter of Extreme Choice raced tractably through the early and mid-stages behind strong speed upfront. Lee started to ask MAQUISA to improve well before the bend and upon straightening, she was chasing the leading pack and making up ground in promising style. She pushed through the middle of runners, showing excellent determination, hitting the line strongly and pulling away for a well-deserved win.

Lee was very happy with the mare’s efforts and commended her strong finish. Chris commented post race that he liked the way she settled early and found the line determinedly. MAQUISA has taken time to fully furnish and it looks like she has this preparation and hopefully she can continue her winning form.

MAQUISA was a Magic Millions yearling purchase from the draft of Kingstar Farm. Her name was inspired by the Maquis who were rural bands of French resistance fighters during World War II…some might say an “extreme choice”.

Congratulations to the winning MAQUISA owners Martin Ive, Rachel Ive, Felgate Holdings (Manager: Paul Felgate), Boeara Holdings (Manager: Denise Dunphy), Holly McGrath, Mark Rolfe, Marie Rolfe, CGO Racing, Paramount Racing (Manager: Kathryn Wood), Nick Vass Bloodstock (Manager: Nick Vass) , EST P W Hickey, Mr B K Hudson, EST JA Hudson.
