Having raced competitively at Stakes level in recent months, 4 year old gelding MCHALE dashed clear over the last 100 metres of the 1,400 metres Group 3 Bill Ritchie at Royal Randwick on Saturday holding off the runner up to book his place in this year’s Group 1 Epsom on Saturday week.
With a nicely judged ride by Rachel King the well related son of Shooting To Win settled on the rails just off midfield for much of the race; he looked to travel evenly with an opening coming well into the straight on the fence after the field had bunched on the home corner. A sharp dash from the 100 metres mark was enough for the gelding to hold off the runner up with an excellent performance first up this preparation.
MCHALE now heads to the Group 1 where the 1,600 metres of the Epsom together with a light weight looks an ideal assignment for him as he embarks on his spring preparation.
Congratulations to the winning MCHALE owners Paramount Racing (Manager: Kathryn Wood).
