Lightly raced 4 year old gelding OCTAVIO disposed of his maiden win at his seventh start having been placed four times in his previous 6 runs. The son of Pierro was moderately away but setled into a comfortable rhythm for jockey Damien Thornton with the gelding looking likely to run a strong 1,840 metres. OCTAVIO bowled along in the second half of the field for the majority of the race, however as the field began to stretch out he turned for home, railed strongly before easing out from in behind a couple of horses over the final 200 metres to win well under determined riding by Damien. The gelding had been “thereabouts” at each start prior to yesterday, so it was pleasing to see him notch up his maiden win and appear to be strong through the line. Hopefully it was a confidence booster for OCTAVIO, with more wins now on the cards.

OCTAVIO was a purchase from Yulong Stud’s draft at the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast yearling sale. The gelding is from the immediate family of VRC Oaks winner PINOT so his pedigree page suggests a strong staying influence.
