Seasoned performer 6 year old gelding ROUSSEAU made sure there were no immediate discussions about his possible retirement producing a strong last to first win at Doomben on Saturday with leading rider Jimmy Orman aboard. Over his favourite 1,615 metres trip and track, the son of So You Think (NZ) settled last of the 9 runners with the leader running along at a frenetic speed. Post race Jimmy said that they were “going so quick…I couldn’t even see the bunny” (as he and ROUSSEAU were so far out of contention). Once the field turned into the home straight, Jimmy allowed the gelding to ease into the middle of the track and he powered home to snatch the lead inside the 100 metres mark and on the line he won by half a length taking his tally to 7 wins and close to $580,000 in prize money earnings. ROUSSEAU has won in 3 states and when he has conditions to suit including a soft track, he mostly runs well; in this case it was a very good watch on Saturday.
Congratulations to the winning ROUSSEAU owners Boeara Holdings (Manager: Denise Dunphy), Paramount Racing (Manager: Kathryn Wood), Scott Garbett, Fudong Niu, Ray Aurisch, Estate of the late Helen Aurisch, Gregory Cabezas, Miranda Foster, Liam Campbell, Oliver Enriquez.
