SIBYLLA entered the winners enclosure yesterday for the first time following her win in the 1,350 metres event at Ipswich. The filly jumped well for jockey James Orman and he used the good draw to push forward, forcing the speed horses to cross before SIBYLLA settled nicely in fifth position. A solid tempo was set throughout the early stages and from the 500 metres mark, James started a four wide move to contest the leading pack. Once balanced up, the filly took a little while to hit top gear, but had them covered once she did and SIBYLLA drew clear over the last 50 metres. James commented post race that she won in nice style and given the way she relaxed in the run, he believes a step up again in trip will be beneficial.
SIBYLLA was a 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast yearling purchase from the draft of Rothwell Park. The filly is by Aquis Farm’s Divine Prophet and her name was suggested by her owners because it is the Mediaeval Latin name for a prophetess (from “Sibyl” the female prophets in Ancient Greece), of which there are five depictions by Michelangelo in the frescos of the Sistine Chapel.
