As we all know in racing, sometimes you have to wait for the horses to produce their best but some go to the races and “show up” straight away. Such was the case last week when emerging talent 2 year old colt MCHALE won on debut at Canterbury Park and European staying import CARBONETTI (IRE) led all the way over the 2,200 metres trip to win in good style at Eagle Farm. Both carried the “White and Celtic Green Jewel” colours of Paramount Racing (Managed by Kathryn Wood Enriquez) and each looks quite likely to continue their winning way.

By Shooting To Win, MCHALE is a half brother to two Group 2 winners and his debut win was especially eye catching because the colt was still last in the 9 horse field at the 80 metres mark looking for a gap to dart through late. It eventuated shortly after and when apprentice Tyler Schiller directed the colt to the space, off he went. It was a good performance by a 2 year old having his first preparation and first race start. Thank you to Brett Howard from Randwick Bloodstock Agency for highlighting MCHALE as a yearling at the 2022 Inglis Classic yearling sale from the Edinglassie Stud draft. Secured by Star for $160,000 the colt may well eventually be an inexpensive purchase. The colt is named after Kevin McHale; a Basketball Hall of Famer who played his entire career for the Boston Celtics (the team which also led to the colour choice for the Paramount Racing silks).

At Eagle Farm on Saturday, European import CARBONETTI (IRE) lead all the way over 2,200 metres. His rider Larry Cassidy reported that the son of Kodiac (GB) relished the leading role he took on just after the start and was more than comfortable dictating the tempo of the race. The week prior he had looked the winner, only to be run down in the latter stage of the race, so he made amends in good style this time.

Congratulations to the MCHALE ownership group Paramount Racing (Manager: Kathryn Wood) and Oliver Enriquez.
