A very consistent mare with a great attitude who is progressing through the grades exceptionally well, is how we could describe SUR LA MER this preparation. The now 5 year old daughter of Nicconi is a full sister to Lankan Star, the runner up in the 2019 edition of the Group 1 Blue Diamond. Winning at midweek level twice early this time in training, SUR LA MER graduated to Saturday racing 2 weeks ago and ran a most creditable second to her highly promising stablemate Frumos, but on Saturday at Rosehill Gardens, SUR LA MER rose to a new level again and dominated the final race of the current season, winning in decisive style by close to 3 lengths.
Her rider Hugh Bowman commented post race “with the tempo set up today she really enjoyed that….got into a beautiful rhythm and won with some authority….I’m really proud of her”. It was another lovely ride by Hugh and the pair have been together now for her last 4 starts resulting in 3 wins and a second. The mare is now a 5 time winner and most likely she is a candidate for some black type races in the near future. With Sydney’s exceptionally wet weather and the promise of more to come, the other great feature of SUR LA MER racing through the winter is that fortunately she handles rain affected tracks especially well.
