TARANAKI (NZ) scored his maiden win on Friday at Ipswich with Ryan Maloney producing a masterful ride to ensure that the 4 year old son of Tarzino (NZ) travelled well in the early and mid stages of the 2,200 metres race. From just on the 700 metres mark Ryan began to build TARANAKI (NZ) into the race rounding the field out wide at the turn for home with the pair finding the line strongly in the straight to hold off the second horse. Ryan commented “he’s still a big, raw horse who won today on his natural staying ability”. The gelding had been around the mark a number of times, so it was good to finally break through for his maiden win on Friday.

TARANAKI (NZ) was a New Zealand 2022 Karaka yearling purchase, alongside Chris Waller Racing and Mulcaster Bloodstock, from the draft of famed Cambridge Stud. The gelding is named after a region in New Zealand; home to Egmont National Park which links back to his sire Tarzino (NZ).
