On Friday a number of our first starters trained out of the Chris Waller Racing Gold Coast stable began their careers with 2 winners from our four runners and encouraging performances from the other two fillies on the day.

First up it was 3 year old Zoustar filly OLENTIA who made a big impression with a dominant win at Doomben. The well related filly had trialled in good fashion but the application of blinkers on race day saw her produce a dazzling display for her first time to the races winning by almost 4 lengths. Jockey Jim Byrne commented post race “you can set your sights high with her…she seems pretty talented.” Race commentator David Fowler said in the call “OLENTIA coming at the pair ….looking dangerous…..looking real good…..brilliant on debut.” It was not only a good win because of the manner in which the filly performed, but the times of the race also highlighted her apparent capacity for a very good race career.

The next filly to win on debut was CHANTISS at Murwillumbah. Over the 1,100 metres trip the daughter of Merchant Navy was initially run off her feet and so jockey Ryan Wiggins allowed her to settle at the back of the field knowing that most likely she would be very strong over the concluding stages of the race. Almost to the letter that’s how things panned out. In the small field, after 2 horses were scratched at the barrier, Ryan came around the other runners and moved to the middle of the track in the home straight where CHANTISS began to pick up the pace. The further she went the more it appeared that the filly would overhaul the leaders close to the winning post and that was how it eventuated, as she recorded a strong win…with the addition of the Racing NSW BOBS bonus.

OLENTIA was a 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast yearling sale purchase from the draft of Tyreel Stud. Her dam Mabkhara has already produced multiple Stakes performers and given that the name Mabkhara is an incense stove, the owners named our filly OLENTIA which is Latin for fragrance or scent. CHANTISS was an $80,000 purchase from the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling sale in the same year. Similarly her dam Miss Shamrock is also a Stakes performing producer and the filly’s name is a combination of both her sire and dam.
